Haleiwa is a small town that sits on Oahu’s North Shore, overlooking Waialua Bay. The land has been populated since the plantation days, as residents came to appreciate access to the beautiful shoreline and marina. It is a great area for water sports, as the community boasts 3 beaches: Haleiwa Beach Park, Haleiwa Ali’I Beach Park, and Kaiaka State Recreation Area. Additionally, there are facilities available for skydiving, horseback riding and golfing. The Turtle Bay Golf Resort, with its 36 holes of championship golf as well as multiple practice areas, is located here, making Haleiwa a golfer’s dream residence.
Haleiwa real estate is mixed between affordable single-family homes and condominiums and ultra-luxurious mansions on the beach. Detached homes away from the beach can be had for $400K. There are also undeveloped lots zoned for housing, for those who want a home built exactly to their specifications. Condominiums vary in price dependent on size and amenities. A small one-bedroom unit in an older building could conceivably be purchased for under $200K, while a unit with more or newer amenities could sell for twice that.
The Haleiwa area is about an hour from Honolulu, although most residents find everything they need closer to home. Local boutiques, restaurants, and shops enable residents to “shop local”, instead of making the drive south. The museums, historical buildings, and shore sport industries are equal to those offered on the southern shore, without the large influx of tourists.
