Kapolei is an exciting place to live. The planned community, known locally as the “second city” of Oahu, was named after the Hawaiian goddess Kapo, a sister to Pele. In the early part of the last century, the area was dominated by plantations. Sugarcane and pineapple fields dominated until the 1980s when the land was cleared to begin development. The plan was a success, and in the last quarter century, Kapolei has grown to be a major business and community center on the western side of Oahu.
Kapolei is a full sized community, with all the resources you would expect of a Hawaiian city. The public schools consistently rate above average, and the medical facilities get rave reviews. Shopping is plentiful, and Disney Resorts have announced a plan to open in the area. Nearby Ko Olina Marina and the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, are great places to spend a sunny afternoon.
An upscale neighborhood, Kapolei is second only to Hawaii Kai in per capita income. The Kapolei real estate market is bustling, and single-family homes and condominiums are all available. As the area is so new, almost all of the properties available are less than 30 years old. Kapolei single-family homes are in the $600K range for homes that average approximately 1700 sq ft. Condominiums are slightly lower, although prices reflect the specific location and amenities of the specific building. On average, Kapolei condos are approximately $400K. As a recently planned community, many homes have modern layouts and design elements.
