Mililani, a picturesque neighborhood in the center of Oahu, is the only town in Hawaii to be awarded the “All American City” title by the National Civic League. This upscale bedroom community sits on land that was once a plantation. In the 1960’s, developers Castle & Cooke gathered a group of planners and architects to create a well-designed neighborhood, in the hopes of meeting the overwhelming demand for housing in the area. Additional highways cut down on the commute to Honolulu, and in June 1968, Mililani was born.
Though close to Honolulu. Mililani has plenty of activities of its own. The Mililani Golf Club is a 6,455 yard, par 72 course that is open to the public. Additionally there are several recreation centers in town, many of which have pools and other activities for the younger set. The Mililani Town Association oversees building design standards and local regulations, as well as providing social events for the neighborhood. Mililani has also been chosen to host the Oahu Arts Center.
Mililani homes tend to be midrange for Oahu, with average prices at approximately $700K. Unlike most of the island, prices are not terribly location dependent. Most homes have decent mountain views and with no immediate shore access, there is no location premium for most homes.
Mililani condos average approximately $250K, although some bargains can be found in older buildings. Here as well, prices tend to stay steady across the area, although there are differences depending on unit size and building amenities.
